A Brief History of WordPress
WordPress is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) used to create websites and blogs. It has become one of the most popular web development platforms in the world, powering more than 35% of all websites on the internet.
WordPress was created in 2003 by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little as a fork of b2, another blogging platform that had become outdated. WordPress quickly gained popularity among bloggers for its user-friendly interface and customizable features.
Over the years, WordPress has evolved from a simple blogging platform to a powerful website builder used by millions of people worldwide. In 2010, the release of WordPress 3.0 introduced custom post types and taxonomies, making it easier for users to create more complex websites without coding knowledge.
Cambodian WordPress Community
Started in 2015 by Cambodian WordPress lovers, the community, in the same year, had its first Facebook page and later got recognition from Meetup. Through the years, the community gathered in different places across Cambodia to discuss and share their experiences with WordPress and informative talks on topics such as Gutenberg, accessibility, security, and SEO.
The Community today has around 800 members on Facebook Group and around 800 on Meetup.

WordPress 20th Anniversary Celebrate
Every year, people who use WordPress celebrate WordPress birthdays in their countries. Here in Cambodia, the Cambodian WordPress Community chose to celebrate WordPress’s 20th anniversary on May 27, 2023, in Phnom Penh. The event was to share about the WordPress history and the presence of the Cambodian Community in Cambodia and to discuss how everyone can contribute to growing the community and making WordPress widely known for entrepreneurs, startups, and developers.
